I love music videos and have for years. I get sucked into rabbit holes watching them and and can not stop myself from dancing along even as I watch the same one for the 3rd straight time. While I’ve been away for all this extra time restricted by COVID rules I have been trying to find fun ways to stay engaged with the kids and music videos is part of the plan. I send the girls one music video a day and we have fun discussing it but I made a tactical error sending what I should have known would be a tough to beat champion on day one. Please help me defeat Ah-Ha!
The fun part of the exercise is finding just the right mix. Can’t be too recent (sorry Taylor Swift and Meghan Trainor) or a favorite they already obsess over (sorry Greatest Showman) and they are 6 & 8 so we have to keep it clean (sorry Thrift Shop) to be a winner I am pretty sure it has to be fueled by dance and energy and storytelling rather than nostalgia and grown up irony which has kept me from digging into some of my pantheon of top videos – Bohemian Rhapsody, Weapon of Choice, Cry me River (…believe me I have tried to explain the gravity of the Brittany and Justin saga but I guess you just had to live it)
